The New Balance 1890 "Black/Yellow" Brings Bold Bumblebee Energy
After debuting through a collaboration with New York’s own Action Bronson, the New Balance 1890 is quickly establishing itself as a new pillar in the brand’s growing lineup of tech-driven lifestyle runners. Now, the silhouette continues its rollout with a striking general release colorway, as the New Balance 1890 "Black/Yellow" prepares to land on March 26.
While Bronson’s introduction helped place the spotlight firmly on the model, this latest New Balance 1890 release proves the design can stand strongly on its own. The bold black and yellow palette gives the futuristic runner an aggressive edge, pairing jet-black mesh underlays with vibrant yellow molded overlays that stretch across the forefoot in signature teardrop-shaped cutouts. The high-contrast execution highlights the model’s layered construction while emphasizing its performance-inspired roots.
The New Balance 1890 leans heavily into the brand’s running heritage. The shoe sits atop a visible ABZORB midsole unit, delivering the kind of “viz-tech” cushioning that defined many New Balance performance runners of the early 2000s. The tooling itself draws directly from the original New Balance 2002, a model known for its highly technical design, later returning as the lifestyle-focused 2002R in the 2020s.
Above the sole, the upper continues the blend of past and future aesthetics. The molded overlays reference performance designs from the early 2010s, particularly the NB 890v3, while reflective teardrop details scattered across the forefoot provide both visibility and visual texture. Breathable mesh panels, padded collars, and no-sew construction complete the design, reinforcing the model’s technical identity while keeping it comfortable for everyday wear.
The New Balance 1890 has quickly carved out a space between performance heritage and modern lifestyle styling, and this black-and-yellow edition may be one of the silhouette’s most eye-catching executions yet.
The New Balance 1890 "Black/Yellow" is expected to release on March 26 through NewBalance.com and select retailers for $180.
