Peter Moore might've only been attempting to deliver a reliable, accessibly-priced basketball shoe when he designed the Nike Dunk Low, but what he created has transcended well beyond sport over the last 40 years.
As the Swoosh conglomerate continues to celebrate the silhouette's 40th anniversary, it's pulling inspiration from a number of places. A constant theme to appear on the Nike Dunk over the last seven months is a panda-inspired makeover. A move to commemorate the Panda craze that took over sneakers between 2021 and 2023 thanks to a "Black/White" look on the pair, the latest effort sees special panda graphics appear throughout the shoe and its packaging.
Having already surfaced in a two-tone ensemble that celebrates the originator, the special theme has recently emerged in an all-new "Picante Red/Light British Tan/Sail" color scheme. The update brings eye-catching hues to Moore's creation, animating the faux fur material that takes over the upper. A panda head-shaped hangtag arrives with the pair, with the same emblem appears on the tongue's underside. Est. 1985 messaging also joins the mix on the label, marking the milestone anniversary of the iconic Nike sneaker.
Firm Nike.com release details haven't been disclosed by the brand as of yet, but that's expected to change soon. In the meantime, enjoy official photos of the "Picante Red" Panda Dunks ahead.
