Obsidian Overload: The Air Max 90 Goes (Mostly) Monochrome This Fall

The Air Max 90 has never been shy of experimentation. From wild colorways to unexpected textures, the Tinker Hatfield classic has always managed to evolve while staying true to its roots. But now and then, Nike dials back the noise and leans into what the silhouette does best — clean lines, subtle contrasts, and tactile materials that do the talking.

That’s exactly the case with this upcoming Nike Air Max 90 “Obsidian,” revealed today via official imagery as part of the Swoosh’s Fall 2025 lineup.

Arriving in a near-monochromatic palette, the pair is drenched in deep Obsidian across its mesh, suede, and leather layers. But a closer inspection reveals the subtle shake-up: a coarsely woven mesh toe box and plush hairy suede overlays replace the standard materials, giving the shoe a refined yet rugged edge.

To break up the darkness, Nike introduces sharp hits of “Lightning” yellow at the Air Max tongue tab, heel badge, and exposed Air unit, injecting just enough energy to lift the design without overpowering it.

Expect the Nike Air Max 90 “Obsidian” to release this Fall on Nike.com and select retailers.
