Nike Football continues to take trips down memory lane, modernizing some of its most beloved boots for today's game. The latest effort arrives in the form of the Mercurial Vapor 1 in "Shock Orange."
Famously linked to the likes of Ronaldo Nazário and Cristiano Ronaldo, the boot pushed the performance space forward when it debuted in 2002. Lightweight and speed-oriented, the Mercurial Vapor 1 set of what's become one of the Swoosh's most beloved football franchises, which is now endorsed by Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappé.
Throughout the last year, Nike has given the R9-co-signed boot the retro treatment as part of its Regen initiative. "Chrome Lime" and "Dark Cinder" styles have launched in limited quantities, quickly selling out. The impending "Shock Orange/White" style is sure to sell out as well once it drops, as it harkens back to a time considered by many as a golden age.
As with its predecessors, the boot maintains its turn-of-the-century design across the upper, with the bold citrus tone animating the synthetic build. Profile swooshes, inner lining, and heel counter trims deviate in "colorless" contrast. Underfoot, the pair abandons its 23-year-old tooling in favor of the current Mercurial Vapor 16's plate and stud layout, delivering reliable, responsive performance for the modern game.
