The Nike Air Force 1 Low '07 "Yardrunner" is a new addition to Nike’s Yardrunners program, continuing its commitment to celebrating Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Since 2020, the program has featured exclusive designs that honor the legacies of HBCUs, giving designers from these institutions a platform to showcase their alma mater's influence on sneaker culture. Following previous releases for schools like Virginia Union University, the "Yardrunner" now shines a spotlight on Howard University.
This edition of the Air Force 1 Low sticks to classic construction and color blocking, with a clean and versatile aesthetic. The upper is predominantly constructed from sail-colored tumbled leather, covering the mudguard, eyestays, toebox, midfoot, and heel. The Swoosh, tongue, sockliner, and heel tab are finished in a rich bison brown, offering a striking contrast. A subtle yet meaningful detail near the lateral toe reveals the coordinates for Howard University: "38.9227 N, 77.0194 W." The left tongue features the signature Nike Air logo, while the Yardrunners branding is found on the opposite tongue, symbolizing the unique collaboration.
Additionally, the signature of Kahlana Barfield Brown, a Howard alum who helped design the colorway, is featured as a personal touch. The pair is completed with a sail rubber midsole and bison brown accents on the AIR text near the heel, finished off by a brown rubber outsole for added durability.
With its simple yet impactful design, the Nike Air Force 1 Low '07 "Yardrunner" is a tribute to Howard University and its legacy, marking another significant chapter in Nike’s Yardrunners program.
