Nike Air Max Plus “Lisboa” Honors Traditional Portuguese Tile Art

Few sneakers enjoy the cult-like following in Europe quite like the Air Max Plus. Especially beloved in countries such as France, Italy, and Portugal, the silhouette has become deeply ingrained in regional streetwear and sneaker culture. In 2025, Nike pays homage to one of its most loyal regions with a special edition colorway that draws inspiration from Lisbon’s rich artistic heritage.

The Nike Air Max Plus “Lisboa” takes direct inspiration from azulejo—Portugal’s signature painted ceramic tilework. Blue and white azulejo patterns are printed across the entire mesh upper, mimicking the intricate motifs found throughout Lisbon’s architecture. Hits of yellow throughout the pattern and golden accents on the Swoosh nod to the city's warm tones and cultural vibrancy.

Further reinforcing the concept, the outsole is treated with a translucent gum that reveals a mosaic-style tile grid beneath, underscoring the handcrafted feel. A Lisbon city flag remix appears on the tongue’s jewel badge, with the city’s name “LISBOA” also printed on the lace shroud.
