Jordan Brand Steps Up to the Plate With the Air Jordan 4 “Jackie Robinson” Cleats

Jordan Brand’s playful Air Jordan 4 “Comic” is no longer just a mock-up. First looks at the upcoming release have surfaced, giving a clearer view of a pair said to take inspiration from a vintage 1989 Air Jordan T-shirt, complete with bold comic-book graphics, bright colors, and classic artwork.

The reference point gives the release a more direct connection to Jordan's history than originally expected. The 1989 tee featured a comic-style illustration of Michael Jordan taking flight, with explosive pop-art graphics, halftone textures, and bright hits of pink, yellow, blue, red, and black. That same energy carries over to the Air Jordan 4, though in a cleaner, modern lens.

The pair is anchored by a soft off-white leather upper, allowing the louder details to take the spotlight. Gradient mesh panels bring in yellow, pink, and red tones, nodding to the printed comic art, while Fire Pink and red eyelets add more punch across the lace setup. Black wings, black midsole accents, and a black heel tab help frame the design, giving the shoe the same outlined feel found in vintage comic panels.

Nike’s annual Jackie Robinson Day releases have become a recurring piece of the brand’s baseball calendar, but Jordan Brand has largely remained on the sidelines — at least at retail. That is expected to change in Summer 2027 with the Air Jordan 4 MCS “Jackie Robinson,” a cleated tribute that brings the legacy of No. 42 to one of Jordan Brand’s most recognizable silhouettes.

While Jordan Brand has created Jackie Robinson-inspired exclusives in the past, those pairs have remained player-only. This upcoming Air Jordan 4 MCS is expected to mark the first retail Jordan release made in partnership with the Jackie Robinson estate, giving the tribute a wider platform for both collectors and players.

The design keeps things rooted in Robinson’s Brooklyn Dodgers era, dressing the cleated Air Jordan 4 in a mix of Royal Blue, Dark Royal Blue, and Lake Blue. Pale Ivory appears across the laces and midsole, softening the palette while still keeping the look firmly tied to Dodgers history. A textile mudguard adds a subtle material shift up front, while the molded cleated tooling makes the pair ready for the diamond.

The storytelling comes through in the details. Robinson’s signature appears along the lateral heel; his iconic No. 42 is expected to appear on the tongue; and the translucent heel tabs are backed by an image of Robinson at the plate. Together, those touches give the pair a more personal feel than a standard team-inspired release.

The Air Jordan 4 MCS “Jackie Robinson” is currently expected to release in Summer 2027 through select Jordan Brand retailers and Nike.com. Retail is expected to be set at $225.
