Atmos continues its collaboration with ASICS, pushing the boundaries of their previous work with a new release that leans into the low-light visibility theme they’ve become known for. This time, the ASICS GT-2160 “Tapetum” takes center stage, following in the footsteps of their recent glow-in-the-dark GEL-Kayano collaboration, offering a fresh take with a unique optical layer twist.
The name Tapetum refers to a biological term from botany but likely draws inspiration from a layer of tissue found in the eyes of many mammals, responsible for reflecting light and creating those bright flashes you sometimes see when a cat’s eyes catch the light at night. While the connection between the two may not be confirmed yet, it’s impossible not to draw parallels with the atmos GEL-Kayano 14, which also incorporated glow-in-the-dark elements inspired by nature.
The atmos x ASICS GT-2160 “Tapetum” has been officially announced and is scheduled for release on December 20th. To secure a pair, sneaker enthusiasts must enter the raffle currently open on the Atmos website, with entries accepted until December 19th.
Winners will be announced the following day, and as is customary with Atmos drops, the release is exclusive to atmos Tokyo, with in-store pickup required. Still, history has shown that global releases follow shortly after that.
