The adidas Football Team continues to expand its Made In Germany boots remake program while marking special occasions. For its latest effort, the group revisits the Predator Touch '96.
Initially teased by Jürgen Klopp during a training session for the Germany national football team, the boot remake coincides with the silhouette's 30th anniversary. Back in 1996, the adidas Predator line was still in its early stages of taking over the football boot zeitgeist, but names like David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane helped cement the franchise at club and international level.
The former footballer is most commonly associated with the Predator Touch '96 thanks to his legendary goal against Wimbledon on Aug. 17, 1996. Funny enough, a young Beckham asked the Three Stripes for the pair of Preds he laced up that game, but, due to manufacturing limitations, the only pair available in his size was actually a Predator Touch personalized for Glasgow Rangers midfielder Charlie Miller.
The 21-year-old, then, made his name known in Preds that featured someone else's name on the tongue.
Speaking of the tongue, the Predator Touch introduced the line's iconic red fold-over tongue. Aggressive rubber fins across the forefoot and medial side further developed Predator as a deadly football boot, improving boot-to-ball contact.
As with other remakes from the adidas Football Family, the "30th Anniversary" Touch '96 features a modern soleplate—specifically from the current-gen Predator 26 (STRIKEFRAME and POWERSPINE technology).
