Hidefumi Hommyo revolutionized the world of streetwear and sneakers when he founded atmos Tokyo in the year 2000. Over the last 25 years, he and his chosen team have delivered highly-curated products and experiences, while also lending their creative vision to some of the space’s biggest companies. To celebrate the milestone anniversary, the boutique has prepped a number of special projects–including a three-way collaboration with BAPE®︎ and Adidas on the latter’s iconic Superstar.
Far from the Japanese imprint’s first time reimagining the beloved shell-toe, the newly-surfaced pairs deliver new aesthetics. One impending style goes all-out on its collaborative nature, employing a greyscale ABC Camo from BAPE®︎–which recently landed on a Crocs Classic Clog trio. Profile 3-Stripes interrupt the all-over print, as does the faux-aged shell-toe. The old school sole unit underfoot also opts for an off white tone, allowing for the graphics up-top to steal the spotlight. Superstar branding on the lateral profile, however, introduce a shimmering ‘Gold Metallic’ finish, harkening back to vintage pairs of the Adidas Originals design. An iconic Ape Head logo at the heel follows suit.
A second Adidas Superstar by BAPE®︎ and atmos features a high-quality leather build across its upper. A pitch-dark ‘Core Black’ tone covers the bulk of the top-half, which consists of an embossed version of the pattern found its collaborative counterpart. Lace dubraes and other co-branding marks deliver stark ‘Gold Metallic’ contrast in the same way past link-ups between the Three Stripes and BAPE®︎ have. Insoles are stamped with logos belonging to all three partners.
As revealed by atmos Head of Product, Hirofumi Kojima, the commemorative Adidas Superstar duo arrives with BAPE STA logos on the medial side. Additionally, profile branding and Achilles' heel panels opt for glow-in-the-dark, scale-reminiscent finishes. This could be a nod to the legendary Super Ape Skate collaboration designed by NIGO all the way back in September 2003.
The three-way Superstar collaboration is set to release exclusively in Japan on Tuesday, April 15. Pricing for the duo hasn't been confirmed.
