Adidas Originals is tasked with reimagining old school performance footwear for the fashion space. And yet, the lifestyle-focused division ensures that its canvases don't forget their origins. To this front, the team has introduced a number of Handball Spezial pairs with fold-over tongues rooted in football boots.
Despite being developed for the sport of handball instead of football, the Adidas Handball Spezial harkens back to some of the Three Stripes' most iconic performance foots for the beautiful game. Akin to Long Tongue Samba offerings, the newly-surfaced Handball Spezial features a longer tongue than usual, mimicking those found on old school models like the Copa Mundial. Classic adidas branding appears on the fold-over component, injecting another vintage touch into the shoe. "Core Green" suede covers the bulk of the upper, with "Crew White" fabric interrupting via the profile 3-Stripes and Achilles' heel panel. A nod to the sneaker's model name is printed onto the lateral mid-foot in regal "Gold Metallic."
Underfoot, the silhouette keeps its signature "Gum Three" sole unit, which helped popularize it when it launched for the sport of handball decades ago. The brownish tooling allows for the upper to revel in the spotlight.
