Announced under the banner of ARCHIVE MEMBERSHIP: V.A.A., the initiative arrives alongside the Nike x Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG SP “Alaska” — a special release that continues Virgil Abloh’s legacy of transparency, education, and access. More than just a sneaker launch, this moment signals a broader commitment to preserving and sharing the late designer’s work with the community that helped shape it.
The Virgil Abloh Archive has also unveiled its first printed publication, The Virgil Reader. The book compiles archival designs, rare imagery, and previously published interviews, offering deeper insight into Virgil’s creative philosophy and his belief in “sharing the codes.” The launch reinforces the Archive’s mission: to preserve over 20,000 objects spanning his career while making the process behind the work just as accessible as the finished product.
To celebrate the release, an in-person activation will take place in Los Angeles on March 14 and March 15. The event will spotlight The Virgil Reader and bring the community together in the spirit of dialogue and discovery — something Virgil consistently championed throughout his career.
In tandem with the activation, 100 pairs of the V.A.A. Air Jordan 1 High “Alaska” will be given away to individuals who sign up for Archive Membership through Virgil’s official website. The membership is free and serves as a gateway to future updates, resources, and ongoing projects tied to the Archive’s preservation efforts.
The Nike x Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG SP “Alaska” itself continues the language established through Virgil’s previous Jordan 1 work — deconstructed detailing, quotation marks, exposed stitching, and archival cues that blur the line between prototype and finished product.
With ARCHIVE MEMBERSHIP: V.A.A., the focus extends beyond product. It’s about education, access, and ensuring Virgil’s ethos remains active rather than static.
