Where to Buy: Free The Youth x Air Jordan 16 Collection (Aug. 15)

A year after initial rumblings of a collaboration between FREE THE YOUTH and Jordan Brand, the former is finally confirming release dates for its Air Jordan 16 sneaker and accompanying apparel collection.

The Ghana-based imprint has officially shared launch details for its Air Jordan retro project with the help of a handmade campaign by none other than Ilya Chemetoff, the Paris-based creative who's previously worked with Off-White™ and Louis Vuitton.

Although the FTY x AJ16 is featured across numerous visuals (which forewent any digital shortcut in favor of a hand-drawn, hand-painted, and live, in-studio stunt-capturing), the campaign showcases some of the clothing that accompanies the sneaker, which features a "Metallic Silver/Picante Red/Metallic Silver/Total Orange" color scheme.

Imagery created by Chemetoff and styled by Imruh Asha have drawn inspiration from a variety of places—including Ghanaian architecture and , traditional prints, as well as the lo-fi surrealism of late 1990s hip-hop visuals. The campaign, then, allows for FREE THE YOUTH's Air Jordan 16 and apparel collection rooted in basketball to exist in an eye-catching, awe-inspiring world.

Following an early, exclusive drop in Paris during Fashion Week, the "Metallic Silver" AJ16 and lifestyle capsule by FREE THE YOUTH will release globally on Saturday, Aug. 15. The Jordan Brand collaboration sees an initial drop through freetheyouthxjordan.net come Saturday, Aug. 1 at 4 AM PT/ 7 AM ET.

Set to release in July 2026, the Free The Youth x Air Jordan 16 marks the Ghanaian collective’s first sneaker collaboration with Jordan Brand. The link-up was quietly teased earlier this year when Free The Youth appeared in Jordan Brand’s 40th anniversary video, and now, thanks to first-look images from Joey_lit, we have a much clearer idea of what to expect.

The pair leans into the Air Jordan 16’s signature shrouded build, using a metallic silver leather finish across the removable cover and toe. The shroud itself features stitched linework across the lateral side, giving the upper a structured, almost armored feel, while the forefoot keeps things smooth with a rounded silver toe — and it appears to arrive with an interchangeable, multi-color, winged shroud option. Underneath, the shoe shifts into a black mesh and leather construction, revealing multicolor accents through the lace system and inner paneling.

Orange mesh wraps the heel, adding a sharp contrast against the silver upper, while bright green pull tabs and small outsole hits bring another burst of color into the mix. Free The Youth branding appears on the tongue, replacing traditional Jordan detailing with the collective’s globe-style logo, while additional graphic hits appear across the outsole and underfoot. The pair also arrives in special packaging, complete with Free The Youth messaging inside the box that reads: “We succeeded in giving the people hope.”

Founded by Jonathan Coffie, Kelly Foli, Winfred Mensah, and Richard Kweku Ormano, Free The Youth has evolved from a style-centered Instagram presence into a full-fledged Ghanaian fashion powerhouse. Their work continues to bridge global art scenes with local streetwear roots, and this collab with Jordan Brand is their most visible moment yet.
