Green-Colored Air Jordan 11 "Monstars" Retro Celebrates Space Jam Film
Jordan Brand isn't holding back for the 30th anniversary of the iconic Air Jordan 11 appearing in the 1996 film Space Jam. In addition to rereleasing the "Black/Varsity Royal/White"-colored sneaker, Team Jumpman is reimagining the silhouette in additional makeovers inspired by the animated crossover—including a "Monstars" retro.
According to the duo of X user @zSneakerHeadz and Sneaker Files, the "Monstars" Air Jordan 11 takes its nickname from the villainous alien squad whom Michael Jordan helps defeat, but its design inspiration is rooted elsewhere. The thematic sneaker release is expected to feature a predominantly green finish, with suede reportedly taking over everything from the tongue to the curved mudguard. This green update to Tinker Hatfield's classic tuxedo-inspired design nods to the fact that MJ wore the original Air Jordan 11 "Space Jam" while filming scenes of the film on a green screen.

According to @zSneakerHeadz, "The all-green colorway replicates the exact green tones seen throughout those production photos, effectively blending MJ’s filming sessions with the Monstars theme that sculpted the movie."
What's curious is that "His Airness" is famously not a fan of green sneakers, as once shared by Macklemore, who worked on a green-colored Air Jordan 6 in 2014. The Air Jordan line has seen retros done with green makeovers, but sparingly. The "Monstars" AJ11, however, could signal a new chapter in MJ's lore; on the other hand, it could simply showcase the importance of good storytelling to both Jordan Brand and the iconic behind the Jumpman logo.
Film-specific nods to either the shoe or its packaging has yet to be disclosed by any party informed on the matter, but the green suede-covered Air Jordan 11 is expected to feature glow-in-the-dark outsoles.
Stay tuned for firm Nike.com/Jordan launch details, which should emerge in full by mid-September. The "Monstars" retro should release in sizing for the whole family, with Adult pairs retailing for $255.
